A Buddha statue can be used as both a decorative accent and an aid in meditation. Buddha statues are symbols of Buddhism’s founder Siddhartha Gautama who taught us that by eliminating all desires from our lives we are able to reach Nirvana. This is a state of existence where suffering does not exist. When one has achieved Nirvana the cycle of rebirth and death ends. The key to achieving that Nirvana is mental discipline and the ability to comprehend and follow the eightfold path.

Buddha statues come in a variety of poses and styles from the elegant style of the Buddha statues from Nepal and Tibet to the whimsical laughing Buddha also known as the happy Buddha. Meditation, dispelling fear, teaching pose, reclining Buddha, and earth touching pose are just a few of the most common Buddha statue poses. Often the Buddha is seen sitting on a lotus flower to represent the divine birth and purity. A Buddhist quote states, “the spirit of the best of men is spotless, like the new Lotus in the muddy water which does not adhere to it.”

The statue of the Buddha in the lotus position is often referred to as the meditation Buddha or a Lotus Buddha statue as Buddha in this position resembles a lotus flower. The statues are made with a base that looks like the stem of a lotus flower. In addition to the lotus symbol of purity it was also the symbolic vehicle that delivered the Buddha up to Nirvana and is therefore significant in this way as well. curling from the muck and mud the lotus flower springs forth with beautiful blossoms. This is again symbolic of the Buddha’s rise from humble roots to achieve Nirvana.

In the Meditation Buddha statue,  the hand positions or mudra place the fingers of the righ hand atop of those of the left. While the hands rested gently in the lap, the legs are folded in a crossed position. The left foot should be placed on the right with the ball and heel foot facing up and the right foot is placed on the left leg in the the same position. This position is is a pose for relaxation and meditation and is known the lotus position.

The lotus flowers symbolic meaning is rich within Buddhism.. It is a symbol of Bodhi, a state of perfected spirituality and total mental purity, the pacification of our base nature.  Depicted in Buddhist art it usually has eight petals which symbolize the eightfold path of the Good Law. White and pink lotus flowers are most closely associated with  Buddha.

When the lotus is seen in varying shades of color this generally has a specific meaning. a red Lotus may refer to love, compassion, or passion. on the other hand, intelligence, wisdom and knowledge are represented by the blue Lotus. The next time you encounter a Buddha statue whether in an Asian restaurant or in someone’s home pay careful attention to the position of the Buddha’s hands and his posture. Each position has a special meaning and message and usually tells you something about the statue’s owner.

Nature and our entire lives would definitely be so poor and colorless without flowers; even in the most crowded metropolis, you’ll still find flowery corners in garden, parks or people’s homes. Interior decorations without the presence of flowers are considered almost inconceivable by some house owners who choose to lend beauty and a special spirit to their rooms by plant growing.

In the evolution of all cultures, flowers are present from the dawn of history; they are stylized in paintings and mosaics, on temple walls and in carvings, being used for the most common of decorations. Flowers accompany the most primeval of rituals, whether they are related to life or death, this world or the afterlife, the sacred or the profane, and this prevalence explains the development of a special symbolism associated with certain flowers.

Water lilies are considered the rare and beautiful symbols of spiritual enlightening; in Asian cultures, the so-called lotus flower is the archetype of a level of enlightenment that is the closest to divinity. Hence, we wouldn’t be in the wrong to say that some flowers have their powerful counterpart in the invisible world by the power of the spirit.

Flowers charm by color, fragrance, freshness and emotional charge as well; once they are offered, they are given a certain kind of significance, and all we have to do in order to prove their power is to simply consider the many occasions we offer them as message bearers. Flowers say “thank you”, flowers say “I love you”, flowers say “Congratulations!”, flowers say “I’m sorry”, flowers receive all the charge of all our good thoughts.

All the cosmetic skin care products, the many perfumes and fragrances that delight our senses and dress us with their aroma, are nothing else but an imitation of the delight Mother Nature has given us in flowers. Rose petals in bath tubs, iris and jasmine extracts are but a few examples of flowers that served well for the body care in the antique world. Nevertheless there has always been more to flowers than scent and color!

Besides the decorative function that prevails in most cases, flowers also share healing powers, being exploited by traditional medicine since the dawn of time when nature was the only source of remedies for various diseases and ailments. Even in our modern times, there are flowers the properties of which remain undeniably valuable for the medical world: this is the very case of a plant we know today as passion flower.

Since the beginning of cultures and civilizations, flowers have had a huge role in all life sectors from the private to the public, and this touches on the religious, the ceremonial as well as on the profane. Flower meanings have been to the attention of many cultivated people throughout many ages; let’s consider for a moment the Victorian age when people thought that flowers could convey messages and figurative meanings just as well as words. Color was an important factor for the flower meanings; hence the subtlety of the symbolism changed with the different hues.

Even nowadays the same thing stays valid; think of roses, and the way they change meaning with color. Red roses stand for passion and even lust, white roses for purity, bridal happiness and serenity, yellow roses work well in business flower arrangements whereas pink ones are the epitome of girlish dreams. Or another great example is that of lotus flower meanings of intellectual and spiritual superiority; in Asian cultures, the lotus flower is actually the symbol of the highest stage of enlightenment that a human being can get to. It is nonetheless true that depending on the culture and the geographical area, there are different flower meanings to be found.

Flowers have this great way of touching all range of emotions from beauty, timidity and expectations to good fortune, purity, love or felicity. Thus, the very common sunflowers can either stand for haughtiness or for respect, and such flower meanings very much depend on the context and the arrangement in which they are to be found. The iris is similarly famous for the plurality of symbols it is said to stand for; nevertheless, the most common association is the one originating in Greek mythology where the iris stood for divine messages.

From the many flower meanings, there are some common ones to be identified for several species: forget-me-nots and ivy both stand for faithful love, whereas lilies, white carnations and roses are the symbols of purity and unspoiled dreams. Many books have been written on the various significance levels attributed to certain flowers, and it is highly interesting to get to learn how a flower came to bear a symbolic charge. Most such beliefs are rooted in the early days of mankind, and they have been passed on from age to age until our very own times. Presently, though we are usually unaware of some deep flower meanings, we are still fascinated by their impact on both senses and mind.

The flowers can mean a few different things, although specific types of flowers such as the rose and the Lilly may have a more specific meaning. In general, flower tattoos have a connection with nature, bringing up thoughts and images of life and vitality. Anytime we look at a flower, we see the duration of life, simply flowers connect with us in the sense that we both grow. Flowers emerge from the earth and continue to grow on a daily basis. Then, the flowers bloom, knowing that they will later dry up and start to wilt away. Having a tattoo with a flower brings back the entire process known as life. Other examples include the acacia flower tattoo which is the symbol for love and friendship. There are some people with Irish heritage who choose to get tattoos with the flower known as the Bells of Ireland. This flower is well known throughout Ireland, with the tattoo symbolizing good luck. Irish who have this tattoo are known to be lucky, or have an insane trend with luck. Those who think of themselves as being the perfect lover may want to get a tulip tattooed on their arm. Tattoos with tulips represent passionate love and fame for being a great lover. If you happen to be shy and timid, you may want to go with a violet flower tattoo instead. Violets are common tattoos for those who are shy and timid, and enjoy taking things slow. Those wanting to symbolize wisdom and virtue on the other hand, would be well to get an Iris. Magnolias are also common with flower tattoos, as they symbolize an individual’s love for nature. Flower tattoos are very common and popular designs these days, giving plenty of meaning behind their beauty. The flowers can be large or small and as bold as you wish them to be. No matter which flower you have decided to use with your tattoo, you can ensure that the flower says the meaning you are looking for.
