When you receive your tree or shrub it is best to plant it as soon as possible. The tree planting season is between autumn and spring while the soil is moist – your order will be sent to you at the right time for planting. Container grown trees or shrubs can be placed somewhere sheltered in the garden until you are ready to plant them; bare-root trees and shrubs should be kept somewhere cool but frost-free until planting. The plastic packaging will keep bare-root plants alive for a short period (a few weeks) but if planting is heavily delayed it may be best to ‘heel-in’ your plants. This simply means to dig a temporary trench in ordinary garden soil and place the roots inside. Cover the roots with soil, firm in and water well. This will keep your plants alive until you are ready to plant them in their final position. Provided your tree or shrub is hardy (check product description) they can safely remain heeled-in outside for up to 3 months.

Planting a tree or shrub

It’s important to give your trees or shrubs the best growing conditions possible; this is especially important when planting fruit trees to encourage a good crop. Choose a well-drained site; if you have heavy clay soil add some organic matter such as compost or well rotted manure along with grit to improve drainage. For the first 3 years the area around your tree or shrub will need to be kept weed-free to remove any competition for nutrients and water. Remove any turf or plants to create a 120cm (4ft) diameter circle of bare earth. Dig over the soil with a garden fork and incorporate organic matter such as well-rotted manure, compost or recycled green waste. When planting a tree, hammer in a sturdy stake just off-centre inside the planting hole. The top of the stake should be just below the first branches of the tree. Use a stake tie to attach the tree to the stake after planting. Staking after planting may result in damage to the root ball of the tree.

Container-grown trees and shrubs

Water the compost thoroughly before removing the container (cut the container away if necessary). Gently tease out the roots to encourage good growth after planting. Trim off any broken roots with secateurs. Dig a planting hole no deeper than the length of the roots and at a comfortable width to accommodate the root ball. Break up the soil in the sides and base of the hole with a garden fork if they are compacted. Place the tree or shrub into the planting hole, aiming to plant at the same depth that the tree or shrub was growing in the nursery. It’s important not to plant your tree or shrub too deeply as this often causes death. Laying a bamboo cane across the top of the hole and lining it up next to the stem is a good way to check you have the correct depth. Simply add or remove soil beneath the root ball to adjust the planting depth. Backfill around the roots with the remaining soil and take care not to leave any big air pockets. Gently firm the tree or shrub in and water well. Apply a thick mulch (about 5cm deep) around the planting area to prevent weed growth and retain moisture. Keep a collar of about 10cm (4 inches) free of mulch around the woody stem of your tree or shrub to prevent the bark rotting.

Bare-root trees and shrubs

Planting bare-root trees and shrubs (such as bare root rose plants) should be carried out quickly to prevent dehydration of the roots. The planting instructions are the same as for container-grown trees and shrubs. Make sure the plant is at the same level that it was planted in the nursery (the soil mark should be clear). When backfilling, firm the soil in stages, taking care not to damage the roots. Water the tree or shrub well and mulch the area around it. Keep a collar of about 10cm (4 inches) free of mulch around the woody stem to prevent the bark rotting.

To date, the most powerful of these natural products seem to be those that include phytoestrogens plant-based substances containing plant hormones or hormone precursors. These natural plant estrogens are called “phytoestrogens.” They act like your body’s own estrogen and help provide a natural hormone balance. This magic plant contains chemicals called phytoestrogens – natural compounds which mimic the effects of the female sex hormone estrogen. Phytoestrogens (plant-derived estrogen) are a key group of natural substances in natural hormone replacement therapy. Environmental estrogens are a variety of synthetic chemicals and natural plant compounds that are thought to mimic the female hormone estrogen. Black cohosh has plant estrogen hormone qualities and is believed to be a natural hormone replacement.

Mirifem is a safe, all-natural breast supplement rich in plant estrogens and isoflavones. That’s because these substances act as phytoestrogens, naturally occurring plant compounds that bind to estrogen receptor sites in humans cells, including breast cells. The debate centers around whether these natural plant estrogens can stimulate growth of breast cancer cells or not. The bottom line is that plant natural estrogens can protect a woman from breast, ovarian, and uterine cancer in later life.

Phytoestrogens are simply “plant estrogens” that mimic, to a degree, natural estrogen. PHYOTESTROGENS These are natural plant substances that mimic the effects of estrogen without the side effects of synthetic estrogen. Phyto-estrogens, natural plant estrogens, mimic estrogenic activity. Eagon guessed that at least some of the traditional plant medicines for hot flashes contain naturally occurring compounds that mimic estrogen.

The natural plant derived estrogens have the same chemical structure as the estrogen produced by the body. There is no reason to use it when completely plant-based natural estrogens identical to those made in human body are easily available. These God-created plant estrogens bind to estrogen receptors in the body and function as natural estrogens in alleviating menopausal symptoms. DIET Some foods contain natural plant chemicals that may “fool” the body into producing less estrogen. Lignans are phytoestrogens or natural plant estrogens with estrogen-like actions in the body.

The soy isoflavones of Estromineral (genistin and daidzin) are natural plant estrogens that help replenish and maintain hormonal balance. Research in monkeys suggests that the natural plant estrogens found in soy do not increase markers of breast cancer risk in postmenopausal women. Soy Products, such as tofu or soy isoflavone extract, and flaxseed contain high levels of natural plant estrogens. Skincare line, still one step ahead of the rest thanks to Genistein, its exclusive collagen-boosting ingredient that’s a natural plant estrogen found in soy. The magic ingredient in soy protein are the isoflavones, natural plant chemicals that are basically a weak form of estrogen. Another interesting soy is Daiazein which contains phytoestrogen, a natural plant estrogen that has proven to help fight breast cancer. Soy foods contain isoflavones (natural plant estrogen) that have similar properties to human estrogen, but are much weaker.

Isoflavones are concentrated components from soy and other plants which provide safe, natural plant estrogens. Both the estradiol (estrogen) and the testosterone are derived from soy and other natural plant-based ingredients. Another example is the natural estrogen-type compounds (genistein and others) found in soy and red clover and many other plants. The study compared growth-promoting effects on uterine tissue of synthetic estrogen, natural estrogen and genistein, a plant estrogen found in soy. Liew shows how natural plant estrogens, like those found in soy products, can be beneficial to both men and women of any age. Estroven provides natural support before, during and after this transition with: Soy and other plants, sources of natural estrogens, for hormonal balance. The specific plant estrogens, or isoflavones, in soy include daidzein, genistein, formononetin and other naturally occurring compounds.

Promotes breast health.Promotes heart health.Novogen Promensil Natural plant estrogens for women experiencing normal midlife changes. More and more women rely on plant derived phytoestrogens as a natural way to help support a woman’s transition. Some women find relief with “natural” hormones made from plant estrogens that more closely mimic what is produced in the body, said Dr. These women eat plant foods containing estrogen like substances that augment natural estrogen in their bodies. Currently, an estimated two million women are now benefiting from natural ‘plant-derived bio-identical” estrogens and progesterone. It was first released in 1997 in Australia, where it quickly became the bestselling dietary supplement of natural plant estrogens for women. An estimated two million women are now benefiting from natural “plant-derived bio-identical” estrogens and progesterone. If you are approaching menopause.

Since the beginning of human experience, plants have played a role in the evolution of our species, not only in the provision of food and medicine but in our deepest spiritual experience and the development of consciousness. Their form, beauty, enchanting scents, their healing and emotional qualities, have all provided a gateway to the Great Mystery of Nature, which our Celtic forebears called “The visible face of Spirit”.

Though our lands are no longer forested as they were, we try to recreate a sense of their beauty and tranquillity in our gardens, parks, and the green spaces in our cities, giving us at least a taste of Nature with which we can sustain ourselves against the soulless backdrop of the steel and concrete jungles that are our homes today. For many people, plants are still the messengers of divinity, harmony, and beauty. They are also the source of our health and wellbeing, not just as medicines but in their ability to relax, refresh, or excite us.

Some deep part of us knows that the healing power of plants is inherent in what they are as much as what they do. Flowers have a role to play, for example, in all of our most primal celebrations of life and death – birth and birthdays, comings-of-age, marriages, illnesses, funerals and deaths. They are there at the first ‘I love you’, and they are there for our endings too. Even after death our connection to the natural world continues and our spiritual destination in many religious myths is some form of paradise which is often symbolised as the “Heavenly Garden”, or the Garden of Eden.

Archaeology shows that plant spirit shamanism has been part of our healing experience for thousands of years, predating other practices by millennia and going back to a time when healers worked in harmony with Nature.

Plant shamanism is – and always has been – a person-centred approach and incorporates, in a holistic way, practices such as herbalism, energy work, aromatherapy, and counselling to provide a unique blend of therapies that is most needed by each individual client, based on the healer’s attunement to the state of balance or otherwise of that client’s soul. But it is also fundamentally spirit-centred, and all traditional healers – from the Curanderos of the Amazon to the ‘folk magicians’ of Ireland – regard plants as sentient, aware, intelligent, alive, and as ‘doctors’ in their own right.

Plant shamanism involves practices for meeting these spirits, such as shamanic journeying, soul retrieval, rituals using flowers and fragrances, offerings to Nature, floral baths for protection, and the use of visionary plants to find purpose, clarity, and new directions in life. All of these, to the shaman, are implied by the term ‘healing’.

WAYS OF HEALING

As a young boy, I was apprenticed to a Welsh sin eater – a ‘cunning man’, as they were called in Wales – who used plants and flowers in his healing work. One of his methods was to bury the name of a patient, etched on a piece of bone, in a corner of his garden, next to a patch of ‘sun flowers’. Each day he would say his prayers to the flowers, consulting with them on the condition of his patient, then squeeze a few petals so their aroma was released. As the scent drifted upwards, he said, a little more of his patient’s illness was carried away until he or she was healed.

This may seem like a strange approach in our culture today, but when I grew up and went travelling I found the same essential methods used in Haiti, Peru, Africa, Greece, America, Turkey… so it is not an eccentricity or even unique to Wales.

]]>

The world over, in fact, wherever shamans work with plant spirits rather than extracts and compounds as Western doctors do, it is understood that plants are alive, aware, and willing to teach their healing secrets. Plant spirit shamanism is therefore learned practically – by getting out into the fields and making contact with natural forces, not by reading about plants in some dusty library.

The sin eater communicated with plants in this way and knew several magical uses for them that they had told him of. For example, the ‘sun flowers’ he used were actually marigolds, but he called them sun flowers because they are “Bright like the sun” and warmed the soul with protection. It is interesting, then, that we find the same belief in Andean Peru, where rosa sisa (African marigolds) are also used for protection. Here, they are often planted by the door of a house, so if someone should pass by and give the ‘evil eye’, the flowers will catch these negative energies and protect the soul of the house from disease. The petals turn black when this happens, but revert to their bright colour when the energy is discharged through their roots to the soil. The sin eater I knew had never visited Peru and yet the message from the plant was the same: marigolds – “sun flowers” – protect.

WORKING WITH PLANTS

The key thing with plant spirit shamanism is to establish a connection with the plant. Once that is done, the plant spirits themselves teach you everything you need to know and reveal the many ways of using them in healing, most of which are very unlike the Western medical notion of ingesting them in a tablet or even a herbal form.

In Haiti, Peru, Brazil, Indonesia, and in our own Celtic past, there is a practice, for example, of taking floral baths, where flowers and herbs are added to blessed water. The sick person then bathes to wash away his ailments. These baths are not restricted to physical healing, but can be used to draw good fortune and change your luck (which is regarded as a real and tangible force), by making you more ‘open’ to the receipt of money, love, or spiritual power.

Other ways of working with plants include the making of pakets, ‘power pouches’ containing herbs that remove negative energies, while returning life force to the patient as the pouch is brushed over his body. The paket has similarities to the Amazonian chacapa, a bundle of dried leaves which has medicine powers to rebalance the patient’s energy field, and is rubbed over the body in the same way.

The seguro of the Andes, a bottle which contains a mixture of plants and herbs in Holy water and perfume, uses the same principles of spiritual connection with the plants. Here the shapes, colours, or qualities of the plants invoke various powers that the client wishes to draw in to his life. Round, golden, seeds attract money, for example, while cactus spines embody protection. The seguro, according to Andean shamans, becomes a “Friend”, you can consult with. Every time you speak out your problems to this friend, they are removed, while the powers of the plants draw good energies in.

One rule that comes up consistently in this work is that we must treat our plant allies with respect. In Haiti, healers literally pay the plants for their work by dropping coins at the base of the tree they’re collecting leaves from. They are then ‘fed’ and there is a fair exchange: we charge the plants with energy so they have the power to help us.

We must also treat plants kindly. Research shows that they have feelings, intelligence, language – even the ability to count and make music! – and they can sense our intentions and respond to our actions. If we treat them with love, they flourish and grow; if not, then their spirits die and we don’t have the healers we need.

GETTING OUT OF OUR MINDS

One of the biggest challenges for the Western mind in learning how to work with plant spirits is our cultural fascination with science and measurement. This socialisation into ‘scientific thinking’ is hard to overcome because, as part of it, we have been taught to stifle our dreaming and imaginative selves. Luckily, however, there are also plants which have a spiritual intention to re-establish our connection with the spirit-universe and open us up to the true nature of reality.

One of these is guayusa. In the Amazon it is known as “The night watchman’s plant” because of its ability to bring lucid dreams and dissolve the boundaries between wakefulness and sleep. Thus, the night watchman can take guayusa and nap, while remaining alert to the sounds and sights around him as he watches over the tribe.

The shamans say that in every country we have plants to cater for our own needs; thus, in Europe, it may be difficult to find guayusa, but a tea made of vervain, valerian, and chamomile will achieve similar affects.

Another way of getting ‘out of our minds’ is through a special state of trance consciousness known as shamanic journeying.

To take any shamanic journey, find a time and a place where you can be alone and undisturbed for 20 minutes or so, then dim the lights or cover your eyes, lie down and make yourself comfortable.

Most journeys are taken to the sound of drumming, which encourages ‘dreaming’ patterns to emerge in the brain, taking the shaman deeper into a more holistic experience of the world in its fullness. You can drum for yourself, have a friend drum for you, or use a drumming tape to guide your journey.

Expressing your intention and keeping this in focus is again important. Intention is the energy that guides the journey and enables you to engage with the mind of the universe so it can work with you.

You can try this yourself by setting your intention to meet with a plant ally – the consciousness of a plant that will guide you into the world of the collective plant mind. You do not need to have a specific plant in mind. Stay open instead to whatever comes.

As soon as the drumming begins, imagine yourself entering a place which connects you to the Earth in a way that is meaningful to you, then allow your imagination to take you where it will. All you need do is receive.

When your plant ally appears to you, spend some time in conversation with him or her (in the imaginative world, most plants take human form). Enquire about its healing gifts and the way these properties manifest in the plants themselves. Ask how you can work with this ally and the plants that embody him or her.

Visit your ally often in this way and you will learn more about the world of the

plants, the nature of reality and, indeed, about yourself, as part of this vast and

beautiful universe.

In the sixth ayah of Surah Hud, Allah states that Allah gives the “sustenance” of all living things, that is, all the provisions that provide for their subsistence:

There is no creature on the earth which is not dependent upon Allah for its provision. He knows where it lives and where it dies. They are all in a Clear Book. (Surah Hud: 6)

One can easily recognize how Allah “gives sustenance” to all living things once one looks around oneself conscientiously and with wisdom. All our food and drink are things that are “made” and “created”. The water we drink, the bread, fruits and vegetables we eat are all the results of a special creation. Take a fruit, an orange for instance…. This fruit is originally formed on the branch of a tree, which is, in fact, a mass of wood. The tree absorbs minerals and water from the soil and combines them with the energy it obtains from the sun. The result it yields is extremely useful for the human body, extremely tasty and fragrant when consumed by humans. Moreover, it is in a very healthy and aesthetically pleasing wrapping.

How does a tree bring about such a yield? Why is it so useful to the human body? Why do all fruits contain essential vitamins appropriate to the seasons in which they grow? Why are they so tasty and not bitter? Why are they so fragrant and do not stink?

Certainly a tree is just a bulk of wood and it is out of the question for it to produce a fruit on its own and equip it with features essential for human use. Just as Allah sustains human beings, so does He sustain the animals.

It is by no means difficult for one to understand the might and omnipotence of Allah if one conscientiously examines, within the boundaries of wisdom and logic, the systems with which animals are endowed to get their food.

AN UNCONVENTIONAL HUNTER: THE VENUS PLANT

Besides the predators we have mentioned so far, there are also some plants which “hunt” by using amazing methods. One of these is the “Venus” plant, which catches and feeds on insects that visit it.

The hunting system of this plant works as follows: a fly looking for food among the plants suddenly comes across one which is very attractive: the Venus plant. What makes this plant, which resembles a pair of hands holding a bowl, attractive, is its charming red color and, more importantly, the sweet scent secreted by the glands surrounding its petals. The fly is charmed by this irresistible smell and lands on the plant without hesitation. While moving towards the origin of the food, it inevitably touches the seemingly harmless hair over the plant. After a short while, the plant suddenly snaps its petals shut. The fly is left tightly compressed between two petals. The Venus plant starts to secrete a “flesh dissolving” liquid, which causes the fly to turn into a jelly-like substance, and then the plant consumes the fly by absorbing it.

The swiftness of the plant in catching the fly is remarkable. The speed of the plant in closing is faster than the fastest closing speed of the hands of a human (if you try to catch a fly sitting on your palm, you most probably would not succeed, but the plant does). How, then, can this plant, which has no muscles or bones, make such an abrupt move?

Research has shown that there exists an electrical system inside the Venus plant. The system works as follows: the strokes of the fly on the hairs of the plant are transmitted to the receptors under the hairs. If this mechanical push is strong enough, these receptors will send electrical signals along the petal, just like waves in a pool. These signals are carried to the motor cells that cause the petals to make sudden moves, and finally the mechanism is activated to swallow the fly.

A few hairs inside the petals of the plant activate the trapping mechanism of the flower.

In addition to the stimulus system of the plant, the mechanical system by which the trap is closed also is created perfectly. As soon as the cells inside the plant receive electrical stimulation, they change the concentration of water within themselves. The cells inside the trap release water from their bodies. This event is like the dying of a deflated balloon. The cells outside the trap, on the other hand, take in excess water and swell. Thus, the trap is closed in the same way as when a person, in order to move his arm, needs to have one muscle contract and one relax. The fly trapped inside the plant actually touches the hairy strands repeatedly, causing the propulsive electrical force to discharge again, and making the trap more tightly closed. Meanwhile, the digestive glands in the trap are also activated. As a result of stimulation, these glands kill the insect and start slowly dissolving it. Thus, the plant feeds on digestive fluids that have turned into a bowl of soup enriched by plant proteins. At the end of the digestion, the mechanism that makes the trap close works conversely to open it.

This system has yet another interesting feature: in order to activate the trap, the hairs have to be touched twice in succession. The first touch generates a static electric charge but the trap is not closed. The trap is only closed with a second touch after the static charge reaches a certain point and discharges. Due to this dual action mechanism, the flytrap is never closed without purpose. For instance, the trap does not become activated as soon as a raindrop falls on it.

Now, let us contemplate this striking system. The whole system has to exist at the same time for the plant to catch its prey and digest it properly. The absence of only one element would mean death for the plant. For instance, if there were no hairs inside the leaf, the plant would not close, as the reaction would never start although the insect would walk all over and inside the plant. If the closing system were there, but if the plant were devoid of secretions to digest the insect, the whole system would be useless. In brief, any element lacking in the system would mean the death of the plant.

This plant, since the moment it was created, must have always possessed the features we refer to here. The plant, no doubt, did not suddenly transform into a hunter. It is certainly not the “magical spell of coincidences” that has made the plant such a professional hunter.

The most important point is that this proficient hunter does not have the capacity to think. If this living being were not a plant but an animal, then the advocates of evolution would possibly claim that the animal had progressed by itself with the estimable contributions (!) of “nature”. What we are talking about here is that this system is found in a plant, a being with no brain or similar structure, and which is certainly unconscious. The plant is not even aware that it is hunting. It, too, is already created with a system by which it can feed itself without any effort just like all other plants.

Mustard plant is is one of the several plant species that are found in many countries. Their mustard seeds are useful in cooking. Mustard seeds are grinded and mixed with water and transformed into a condiment. From mustard plant we can obtain mustard oil which is very useful. Mustard oil is obtained by pressing the mustard seeds. The importance of mustard plant is also mentioned in the Bible.

Wild and black mustard are some of the species of mustard plant. Mustard plants generally do not achieve their normal height in low rainfall area. Mild white mustard plants grow in North America and the Mediterranean Europe. Mustard plants have the capacity to spread rapidly in areas where they are introduced.

Mustard plant is an interesting plant which is very useful to man. It has both culinary and medicinal value. Black mustard, white mustard plant and leaf mustard are of the many different types of health giving mustard plant. Mustard plant contains volatile oils which have antimicrobial properties Mustard plants are able to cure many problems.

]]>

Powdered mustard is used an appetite stimulant, anti inflammatory, rubefacient, diuretic, laxative, digestive aid, emetic, irritant and for many other purposes. Mustard plant is also used to combat sinus problems. It enhances blood circulation. Mustard plant gives mustard flour when sprinkled in socks save the toes from frostbite. Seeds of mustard plant are used as preservatives. They are used as a medicine for spleen and liver complaints. Mustard plant also gives mustard plaster which if used as a dressing, increases blood flow to injured areas of the body. Mustard plaster is also used to lessen rheumatism, arthritis and toothache. Muster plaster is an official treatment for reducing fever.

Some mustard  plants are grown and cultivated as green vegetables. Mustard if cultivated properly can produce oilseed which is very useful. Leaves of Indian mustard plant is one of the main ingredient in western and Indian food. Mustard plants are used for removing heavy metals from soil as these plants have high tolerance for such substances. These metals are very hazardous for other plant communities and are found in waste sites. Mustard plant store these metals in their cells. Later these plants are harvested and disposed. This method of removing heavy metals is cheaper and less expensive than other methods. This method is also useful in preventing erosion of soil from such sites.

Greeks have described the Mustard plant as the greatest plant because of its usefulness to mankind. Mustard plant has the ability and capacity to sprout, bloom, and mature at a remarkable rate. Despite rapid growth, their quality is long lasting. Mustard plants have the ability to reproduce itself through the process of natural germination. These plants are functional and useful year after year. Every part of mustard plant can be utilized effectively. Mustard plant is also used for treating patients suffering from cold.  Mustard seeds if applied to chest will prevent pneumonia. Leaf mustard can also be used as a salad. So the next time you see a mustard plant do not uproot it as it is extremely useful.

When gardening, before anything is planted, it is highly recommended that the soil is prepared properly. To learn more about this go to my article Soil Prep For Your New Garden for more info on this area.
There are two ways you can plant your garden, from transplants or seeds.
There are a few decisions you will need to make before buying your seeds. First you should take a good look at your garden and be realistic with the amount you can plant. It is better to have more plants and little variety than lots of variety and not enough room to grow a substantial amount of anything. For new gardeners, choosing your seeds will be a little difficult as well. You want to strike a balance between their ability to tolerate disease, the amount of time you have daily to put into your garden, and the time of the season they will mature.
There are numerous places to buy seeds. You can go to a nursery, gardening centers, online, or from mail order catalogue. I would recommend you buy new seeds every year to avoid poor germination the next season. You also do not want to save seeds from your harvest to plant next year. I know that it sounds like a nice sustainable way to produce a good harvest year after year but the problem lies with the fact that we plant more than one vegetable in our garden at a time. The plants that would grow from seeds from last year’s harvest will be hybrids of the plants they are supposed to be, due to cross pollination with other plants in your garden. Another thing to remember is that seeds can transmit disease from one year to the next so save yourself a lot of work and aggravation and just buy new seeds every year. One last thing to remember about handling your seeds is that they are chemically sprayed to kill off any disease that may be on or in the seed. This practice also helps prevent the seeds from rotting before you can get them in the ground. So always remember to wash your hands when you are done.
Now it is time to plant your new seeds. There are two methods you can employ; you can sow your seeds by scattering them or planting them in furrows. I would recommend you take the time to plant them properly in furrows so you can regulate the amount of seeds you plant in every square foot of your garden. When planting, try to shoot for a depth of not more than three times the seeds thickness. If you plant too deep the seed may germinate and be too deep to make it to the surface and if too shallow it may be washed away by rain or watering or it may be blown away by the wind. After you add a little bit of mulch on top of your seed row to help you conserve moisture all you have to do is watch and wait.
If you decide to go with the transplant route there are a few more points I want to make to ensue your transplants take. First you need to “harden” your plants. It doesn’t matter if you choose to buy them or grow them yourself you must acclimatise your new plants to the outdoors. I recommend you keep your plants in a shady, dry, and windproof location outdoors for 8-10 days before planting. Over the course of this time you should gradually increase their exposure to the sunlight so they can get used to the warmth of the sun. Also to note, during the hardening period you should allow your plants to dry out a little between watering. The hardening period will help your young plants get used to the harsher conditions when growing outdoors than inside a garden center or your home. The day before planting give them a good watering to help them
Them main goal of transplanting is to not disturb the roots too much. It is nice when you can buy your transplants if biodegradable peat pots because you can just plant them into the soil, pot and all. The only recommendation is for you to make sure you completely bury the pot because it can wick out the water from around the plant. If in a non biodegradable pot then you should carefully take the plant out of the pot and gently tease the roots free from the big ball that they have probably become. Plant immediately and only do one plant at a time. Do not take them all out of their pots and then try to plant them.
Once you plant your new plants they may need protection from direct sunlight or frost (depending on the season you plant in). If you are concerned about the sun then lay a wood board down, leaned up so it creates a sun shade. If the possibility of frost is the problem then drape plastic over you plants to avoid getting frost on them. If you use plastic make sure to put small holes in it to allow the plant to breath during the day. You could burn your plants instead of save them.

A popular, contemporary gift that is suitable for sending on a variety of occasions, is a tasteful bouquet of flowers. This gesture, is a long standing tradition, upheld in cultures all over the world. Many florists also have a range of plant gifts available in their catalogues in addition to fresh cut flowers. Plant gifts are ordered and delivered from flower retailers just as flower bouquets and gifts are.

A plant gift catalogue will have many varieties of plants to choose from. When you choose a plant for a gift, it is important to remember the following points. This will ensure that you make a choice that is perfect for a home or office environment.

Firstly, find a plant that is easy to care for. A houseplant is a wonderful gift, but if the recipient is presented with a plant requiring dedicated maintenance, there is every chance that the gift will not be as appreciated as intended.

Secondly, a plant that is useful is always a wise investment. Whether it is for air purification, to fill a dull spot in a person’s lounge or to symbolise a matter of personal importance, a plant which serves a purpose will be appreciated and is more likely to be cared for properly.

Make sure that the plant you choose for a gift is attractive and beautiful. Purchasing a plant with the ability to brighten a room or highlight a specific feature will ensure that the gift will be appreciated for years to come.

Plant Gifts
Indoor plants have many varieties and can be adapted for any environment and accessorised with a striking vase or trendy pot, for example on a work desktop, a good plant idea is a green leafed indoor variety with a stainless silver container for a minimalist touch.

Gift plants such African Violets are very popular as they are striking yet easy to care for. Their green stems and vibrant flower colours are an instant attraction and bring attention to any part of a room in which they are placed.

Looking after an indoor plant
The important factors to consider when looking after an indoor plant are lighting, water, air supply, soil, pot and fertiliser. Each plant is different in terms of these specific needs which is why research and knowledge are extremely important to keeping a plant gift alive and well cared for. Including some information about the specific plant being sent as a gift is a thoughtful way of ensuring that recipient can experience the full benefits of the plant.

Lighting has a strong effect on a plant and light that is too strong or weak will damage a plant due to lack of photosynthesis or too much heat. Photosynthesis is the metabolic activity of a plant, using light to turn carbon dioxide into food for its survival. Depending on the variety, too much sunlight can burn a plant as leaves of indoor plants tend to be delicate. Some plants will only require a very small amount of light whilst others require a medium or large amount of light.

Watering a plant should be done according to what suits the specific plant type. Succulents such as aloes do not require a large amount of watering and make perfect gifts for those with a busy schedule or a frequently changing routine. Succulents should not be watered too often as they are adapted to survive in very dry and arid climates without a steady water supply. Other plants require regular and frequent watering, and under watering will damage them. Over watering plants is just as harmful as under watering them.

The soil used for a plant in the home should be mixed with a small amount of fertiliser for the maximum health of the plant. Too much fertiliser will lead to a build up in salt which will harm the plant and damage the roots. Outdoor soil is not suitable for indoor plants as it becomes too compacted after a few months. When an indoor plant is re-potted, the soil used should always be potting soil and mixing a little sand with it will help the aeration and drainage. Soil for indoor plants should be relatively porous as this helps the watering and drainage of the plant.

Online Florists
Sending a plant as a gift is a gesture made with foresight and thought. Plant gifts are a reasonably modern favourite and have become so popular as they offer more to the recipient than average gifts. Plants are alive, ever changing, growing and bringing positive elements to any interior.

Online florists are a particularly easy way of sending a plant gift as they provide extensive catalogues which are easy to navigate, secure payment facilities, reliable delivery services and extremely attractive presentation and wrapping.

Spring is the time of the year I miss my kidhood the most. Growing up on a farm the spring brought many activities and tasks, but my favorite was preparing the soil and planting a crop.

There are two truths of planting that all farmers know. First, you must plant the seeds that you want to harvest. You can`t plant pumpkin seeds and expect corn to grow!

Second, you don`t plant one kernel of corn to harvest just one kernel in the fall. You plant expecting – knowing, really – that you will harvest much more than you plant.

You may not have spent hours in the tractor seat, but you have planted something in your life and I know you understand what I am saying.

This article really isn`t a lesson about planting a crop – at least not a crop of plants. This article is about planting other things in life – planting the things that we want to grow in our lives and organizations.

Every winter Dad would study and decide which varieties would be best in the fields, and Mom would study the seed catalog to decide what to plant in the garden.

Now I`m suggesting you do that sort of planning too. Consider what follows to be your seed catalog.

Things to Consider Planting in Your Life

]]>

As I`ve already said, we should only plant the things that we really want to grow, blossom and flourish in our lives. Consider this as a starter list . . .

Plant ideas. Ideas can grow and provide new opportunities, improvements and greater success.

Plant belief. Belief in your future, belief in the potential of others, belief in success. The more belief you plant, the more will be in your life.

Plant confidence. Confidence in others and confidence in yourself.

Plant people. Want those around you to grow? Give them opportunities and a chance to do exactly that! Put people in situations and opportunities to grow towards their potential.

Plant positive attitude. Would you rather live and work in a positive environment or a negative one? Someone must plant the seeds of positivity – why not you?

Plant a goal. Start by writing it down, then go to work to help it come to a full harvest. Think bumper crop!

Once gardeners plant seeds, they know they can`t just ignore the plants. Your seeds will need to be nurtured and cared for. Just like the farmer or gardener, we must nurture and fertilize what`s been planted.

In these cases, the best fertilizer will come in the form of time, attention, resources, focus and encouragement. When you nurture the seeds, you will create much, much more from the single seeds you`ve planted.

You may have more than one crop planted in your garden – which is absolutely OK – just make sure you plant only the things you want more of in your life. Remember that if you don`t plant, something will still grow (also known as weeds).

Remember too that planting the things you want requires time, effort and thought – but without time, effort and thought you will surely have a harvest of weeds.

The things we are talking about can be planted anytime, but there is no time like the present – spring or not – to get started.

Potential Pointer: Every farmer knows you must plant the seeds that you want to harvest. The same is true in the rest of our lives. Make the decision to plant the things in your life that you want to grow and see blossom. You are the gardener and the choice is up to you!

Running a business can often be demanding and providing the right ambiance for your staff can play a crucial part to your eventual success. It is a given that maintaining a high morale amongst employees is one way to boost chances for success. Recent studies have shown that the use of office plants has proven benefits when it comes to improving morale and productivity within the workforce. Indoor plants provide aesthetic value while improving air quality and reducing stress thereby maximizing business profits.

Hiring indoor plants brings additional benefits. An indoor plant specialist will be able to give sound advice regarding the types of plants that would best complement the environment in the workplace. There are basically three types of indoor plant hires – low light, moderate light and high light plants. As the names suggest the type of plant is highly dependent on the office’s lighting. For instance, those belonging to the low light plant hire category are excellent for dark areas and for corners of small offices or meeting rooms.

Among the plants that belong to the low light category are the Cordatum, Devil’s Ivy, Peace Lilly, Philodendron Panda, Snake Plant, Umbrella Tree, and the ZZ Plant. In case of moderate lightning, the indoor plants that can be used include the Bamboo Palm, Gold Dust Dracaena, Happy Plant, Kentia Palm, Philo Xanadu, or the Lady Palm. Finally, for high light environments, the plants that are normally used include the Century plant, Golden Cane Palm, Ponytail Palm, Ficus Sabre, and the Yucca.

Another benefit of hiring indoor plants is that there is an assurance that the plants will constantly be well maintained. Most leading specialists in indoor plant hire usually have a well trained crew who will regularly attend to the plants and ensure that they are kept healthy. This is particularly important as researchers found out that indoor plants in poor health have a detrimental effect on morale and productivity.

In terms of the aesthetics and the design of your offices, hiring indoor plants can be very constructive. In fact, a study by Engelbert Kötter in collaboration with the Bavarian State Ministry of Nourishment, Agriculture and Forestry, found that plants in offices enhanced employees’ perception of well-being and improved the comfort factor of the offices. The finding only proves that people tend to react positively to plants and perceive the use of indoor plants as a sign of success.

Nowadays, offices are constructed to be effective energy saving spaces. This presents a problem because modern buildings are increasingly becoming so well sealed in an attempt to keep the elements out while retaining indoor pollutants. A number of businesses tried to solve the problem by investing on expensive air conditioning and ventilation systems. However, indoor plants are much cheaper and can be strategically placed without any structural changes to the office.

Finally, hiring indoor plants will enable key personnel to deal with more pressing issues as they know that the plants are well cared for and helping them keep their employees motivated. It is therefore fitting to invest in indoor plant hire services since it is well worth the money due to potential benefits that can be acquired from hiring indoor plants
